I have a very tenuous relationship with gender in the digital space.

In my physical space, I use he/him. I would without thought tell you I am a man. I have a common masculine name. I have no difficulty stating these facts, nor in anyway do I consider them to be false. In this digital space all of that feels nebulous though, almost irrelevant.

You do not know my embodied self. This is a statement that will likely hold true eternally. Even in the rare case that you know my embodied self, in this space you are interacting with my digital self. They are very alike and affect each other, but have always been distinct.

I grew up when the idea of sharing a personal name online was preposterous. I was taught to navigate these spaces under different names (tags, usernames, nicknames…). Maybe that’s the source of the split?

In this space my name is Gulo. If need arises to be formal or you need to fill in a first and last name, you can call me Gulo Gulo. I ask that you use it/its.
